After 2 sell out parties in July and August, for the final in a series of 3 summer rooftop parties, we bring you the mighty Nick Curly of Cecille and 8 Bit, and also the Hot Creations and Ovum sensation MANIK. This is a very rare London appearance for Nick Curly – we’ve been trying to book the man for a long time! Likewise, MANIK has a seriously punishing summer touring schedule, and we are delighted to bring his funked up sound to a rooftop near you.
This is going to be something of a summer swan-song, and will surely be the last chance to party outside for a while, so don’t miss out! The rooftop is an unbelievable space, with incredible 360 views of London – it’s the only one of it’s kind in the city + took us a long time to find! We are keeping the location top secret due to licensing restrictions – but we will be announcing the venue address the day before the event.
And there’s more! The after-party will take place downstairs within the same building, which is also an awesome space. This promises to be one of the parties of the summer – and there are very limited tickets available – the last two have been hugely oversubscribed so snap yours up pronto. A ticket gives you entry to both the roof party and the after party!
There will be a BBQ, Pimms and Cocktails running all day on the roof.
Now to the acts in more detail:
NICK CURLY:
Nick Curly can look back on an enthralling two year spell where his package of killer productions, red-hot record labels and captivating DJ sets have combined to make him one of the most talked about artists to arrive on to the underground scene.
This summer, he takes his career to a new level when he launches his DJ residency at Space Ibiza and provides one of the mixes in the latest instalment of the iconic ‘Cocoon Ibiza Summer’ compilation series, alongside Marco Carola.
Producing records since 2005 and, at that time, only a well known name in Germany’s Rhein-Ruhr area, Nick’s early releases on murmur, Supernature, 8 bit and Plastic City laid the groundwork and lit the fuse in the mid 00’s, before subsequent tracks like ‘Pujante’ (Cocoon), and the Cecille releases ‘Stuntman’ and ‘Dubnoise’ saw Nick explode out of the domestic German scene and on to the worldwide stage for the first time. The big names were not slow to identify his talent and hugely well received remixes soon followed on Get Physical, Liebe*Detail, Mobilee and Saved.
As a creator of taste, Nick has taken his Cecille and Cecille Numbers labels, that he run together with Marc Scholl, into the stratosphere since their inception, delivering one dancefloor smash 12” after another and, in the process, helped launch the careers of acts such as Markus Fix, SIS, Robert Dietz and Alex Celler. More recently, his work together with partner Gorge on his ‘other’ label 8 Bit Records has consistently been hitting the highest heights and Nick now finds himself in the enviable position of having three of the top 20 charted labels on Resident Advisor’s esteemed DJ charts each month.
Recently, Nick has hit the road for his most ambitious tour to date – 8 sold out dates in North America, 6 shows across South America and 7 in Australasia including his much anticipated debut at Womb in Tokyo. Naturally, he also fits in a string of dates across Europe.
MANIK
New York City born and bred, M A N I K is the latest talent to roll off the big apple’s endless conveyor of talent. His mature production style and ear for quality music, mark him out as a talent that is here to stay. Graduating from school with a degree in Music Business, he is not by any means your typical artist. M A N I K is quietly going about attracting more and more attention on himself and his home city of New York.
Despite releasing music for little over a year, record after record is continuously hitting the spot, most recently his release on Poker Flat, which follows tracks on Ovum, Culprit, Hideout and Komplex De Deep in 2010. Later in 2011, M A N I K will see the light of day on Lee Foss & Jamie Jones’ new label Hot Creations . The “McLovin’ You EP”, on the impressive L.A based Culprit, was played by everyone, while his ‘Keep That Fresh EP’ released on Ovum, cut up plenty of charts, further cementing his ability as a real musician, and making sure the ‘Hot To Watch 2011′ selection DJ Mag gave him in January 2011, was indeed the truth.
The highly anticipated debut Album, which is being released on Ovum Recordings, will showcase his “outside the box-house inspired vision” of electronic music- because M A N I K doesn’t just make dance tracks- he tells stories. The LP caps an exceptional and memorable past twelve months for the Queens native, who now finds himself as one the hottest breakthrough talents in electronic music. Whilst some artists are pigeonholed into purely one genre only, M A N I K prides himself on being heavily inspired by a diverse and comprehensive musical background by growing up on a diet of hip hop, funk, r&b, film scores, and plenty of synth based music.
From London to L.A, Berlin to Barcelona, his music is being championed as unique, fresh, and forward thinking. Being described as one of the “most focused, humble, & active musicians around in Electronic Dance Music today”, the M A N I K style has quickly evolved into a class of its own. His music is regularly supported by Josh Wink, Lee Foss, Anja Schneider, Droog, and so many more. This driven 25 year old is one of the leaders for the next generation of multi-genre artists, as well as being one of the top cutting edge electronic musicians hailing from the U.S.
